The CGCC Center for Teaching & Learning is pretty psyched about this year's Summer Institute, "eLearning Reality TV"! While this institute is especially for those of you who have an interest in eLearning, there will be plenty of information (good course design, tips for building community, student engagement, etc.) for ANYONE who teaches! NOTE: we would love to see everyone participate in all four days of the institute, but we know that isn't always possible - so we have set up the registration on an "a la carte" basis, so you can surf our channels and decide which one you like! You can sign up for all four days (8 segments total), or just for one half-day, if that suits your needs... or anywhere in between!
The "Reality TV" part is just a theme that popped up when a group of faculty started talking about lessons learned when each of us first taught an eLearning course - what did we think was going to happen, and what were the realities of teaching online or hybrid? Reality... Reality TV... you all know how the CTL likes to have fun with whatever they do, so before you know it, we were tossing out all kinds of Reality-TV-themed tie-ins to the topics that folks have been asking for. For example, in looking at student evaluation results for online courses, students report that the classes where they really learn are those where the instructor provides rich, detailed, and clear communication and feedback -- thus our "Apprentice: Facilitation and Feedback" segment!
We have a total of eight "Reality TV" segments planned for the week:
